Schwenkfelder Homestead

The Schwenkfelder Homestead was established by three brothers around 1736. The brothers were members of the Schwenkfleder’s, a religious sect that fled prosecution in a region of present-day Germany between 1731 and 1737. The farm they established became a center of Schwenkfelder worship in Berks County. Today, a mid-nineteenth century farmhouse and agricultural buildings remain on the site. Zeller Preservation prepared a Determination of Eligibility report for the Schwenkfelder Homestead, documenting existing conditions and evaluating the property’s historic integrity. The report outlined the site’s developmental history, established its broader historic context, and assessed its eligibility for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
